CONCEPT IDEA (form, function, movement, scale, location, meaning)

My idea is a project of creative centre/ art studio. The form consist of simple shapes, which when combined together creates minimal but interesting form. It will be a roller compared with cylinder, which create the first floor.

3D OUTCOME

The 3D outcome of my work will be a model of the building. During research process I already made few models exploring both material and trying to transform my ideas into forms. The final piece will be photographed on the write background. I want to achieve impression of natural materials to make it as close to nature as possible.

RESEARCH

I started the project by defining what movement means to me. I

MATERIALS

The materials I want to use will be obviously natural ones. I want to combine wood with glass. There will be no plastic. I want to use materials, which I will be able to find or remake from natural objects.

DESIGN HISTORY

As example of an invention that had a major impact on Society could be a plywood. It was created by Eames couple. I think it changed a lot the way we look at design today. The invention enabled mass production, which made a piece of furniture an object available for almost everyone. The reason I think it is a significant invention is because it made a huge change in the perception of art. The created piece of design became an object of a mass production- a product.

Plywood was a result of an experimental works in Eames studio. I think the materials we use today expand our possibilities, but at the same time encourage us to consider the role of the designer and the definition of an art itself.

I think every invention is identified the time of its creation. Depending on time and the context it is more or less involved by the class. XX century the time of the modernism, which had a huge impact on its inventions and the techniques used in its creation. I think creating designed objects available for everybody blurred the boundaries between classes.

I would not want to revive any ism. Some of them are very close to my way of thinking about art and design like modernism. I think we can only take some significant from us part from the previous generations, but we need to transfer them into our own times and create something new. The other way it would be false and would not reflect our times, which I believe is the purpose of design.

DENSE CITY 20.11

For the collage I used an old photo I took in Warsaw. It was taken from the window of Cosmopolitan skyscraper. My idea was to combine different styles in art. At first I took a picture of a brutalist building with the contemporary sculpture on the first plan. Behind the building in the background you can see the Palace of Culture the residue of stalinism. When thinking of Warsaw this is the building that the city is the most associated with. I decided to add some other photos of this building I taken. What was interesting for me was the multiplication of the same building, which at first was only the background.

I think it was a successful process. The collage was created in Gravit Design. I always used to create lots of collages. I like working with images and transforming them in my own way. I think collage is very good technique for creating a visualisation of a project.

I understand Post modern design as all the design that was created after modernism.

DESIGN FUTURES 27.11

POSSIBLE FUTURE DESIGNS

My group identified possible utopians such as the concept of a "world peace" and test-tube babies. As an example of dystopian we thought about "Black Mirror" series.

I think that culture is being built on the idea of the future scenarios. It is designer's responsibility to understand the society and design in the way that respond to their needs. It is important to understand that by designing today's world one built the future.

When thinking about utopian I thought of Frank Lloyd Wright's idea of a perfect city. I read "Modern architecture. Lectures"  book where he presented his idea of the city of the future. I think the reason his idea can be described as a utopian is the controversial aspect of it. Wright rather than transforming existing city in a modern way, proposes the idea of a city built from the very first step.
